A considerable amount of training
and experience in anthropology is gained through field work.
This is true for each of the four sub-disciplines in
anthropology.
Currently,
every summer the Anthropology Department offers
fields schools in diverse places such as Arizona, New Mexico
and Nevada. Two of our faculty do excavations in the Near East
and there are opportunities to travel overseas.
We also offer - when possible - a Field Practicum during the
semesters that are similar to summer field schools. These
sessions are held on the weekends and do not interfere with
weekly classes.
Pictured above is the campsite where students pitched their
tents behind the National Park Service cabins in the Parashant
National Monument. This area is the staging point for
excavations at Lava Ridge Ruin and surveys in Andrus Canyon
and nearby areas on Kelly Point - all on the North Rim of the
Grand Canyon.
